CSI-911
One Region Working Together
The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) is preparing a Next Generation National Elements Plan and received ARRA funds to address compelling public safety needs and related uses for broadband. They will complete reference models on the national level and make them available across the country to avoid costly, non-interoperable duplication at the state and local level.
NENA has identified the Counties of Southern Illinois 911 Association project as the pilot program for how to establish and test Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) as the basis of such a network in rural America. CSI-911 is a consortium of 15 Emergency Telephone System Boards which have joined together to perform a major upgrade of emergency communications throughout the region and implement enhanced and next generation 9-1-1 in unserved counties.
The Clearwave and CSI-911 projects have combined to offer NENA a perfect opportunity to test the national NG 9-1-1 standards they have been preparing and to test essential elements of their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) System plan on a regional basis.
Advantages of CSI-911

Ability to share resources at a lesser cost for the region
-
Ability to back each other up when a disaster strikes; true interoperability between
9-1-1 centers anywhere at any time
